Juvéderm® Ultra®, Ultra Plus®, and Voluma®
Juvéderm dermal filler was FDA-approved in June 2006 for the treatment of moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds such as nasolabial folds (those lines that extend from your nose to the corners of your mouth). The difference between Juvederm Ultra and Juvederm Ultra Plus is simply the size of the molecule in the product. Juvederm Ultra is used primarily in lips where smooth, but minimal volume is needed, and Juvederm Ultra Plus, with its larger molecules, is commonly used to fill moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds. Juvederm Voluma® is used for lifting the cheek area.
Why Choose Balanced Health and Wellness?
At Balanced Health and Wellness, our focus is on you feeling as great as you can through a systemic approach to optimal wellness. So how do cosmetic procedures fit into that philosophy? Often, we age our bodies beyond our years through unhealthy lifestyle habits, such as sunworshipping. If that’s the case for you, and you want to look as good on the outside as you feel on the inside, our experienced staff will be happy to help you achieve your goals. Our staff physician, Dr. Alavi (bio), works directly with you to determine goals and which procedures are most appropriate for you, and personally performs this procedure.
What is Juvéderm® (and the Juvederm family)?
Juvéderm® is a smooth gel made of hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring substance in your skin that helps to add volume and hydration.
How Juvéderm® family Works
Juvéderm improves your appearance by lifting and adding volume to the wrinkles and folds in the treatment area. Over six to nine months, the biocompatible compound is naturally absorbed into the body.
The Juvéderm Procedure
Our physician eases the Juvéderm gel into your skin using a fine needle to fill in and augment the treatment area and smooth moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, temporarily adding volume to the skin and smoothing the surface. Juvederm Voluma® is placed deep under the muscle over the bone in the cheek area.
You’ll be seated in a comfortable reclining chair, and though no anesthesia is required, the Juvederm we inject is mixed with Lidocaine to minimize discomfort. For those who are sensitive to Lidocaine, please let us know when you make your appointment, and we’ll use a Lidocaine-free syringe or consider other options.
Our doctor will work with you to determine the most effective injection sites before administration. The entire injection procedure can take from just about 15 minutes to an hour.
Results are usually evident immediately, though swelling may occur so the full effect may not be visible for 7-14 days.
Juvéderm Side Effects
Side effects with Juvéderm are mild to moderate and generally short lasting (less than 7 days). The most common side effects include, but are not limited to, redness, tenderness, pain, firmness, swelling, lumps, bruising, itching, and discoloration. As with all skin injection procedures, there is a risk of infection. We ask all patients to remain upright for four hours after the procedure and refrain from vigorous activity for 24 hours.
