What is Radiesse®?
Radiesse® dermal filler is made of calcium-based microspheres suspended in a water-based gel that is used to correct the signs of aging, or add natural contours to your face without invasive surgery. Radiesse is often used for smile lines, marionette lines, nose, cheeks, chin, jaw line, earlobes and hands.
How Radiesse Works
Radiesse improves your appearance by filling lines and adding volume to the treatment area. Over 12 to 24 months,
the biocompatible compound is naturally absorbed into the body.
The Radiesse Procedure
Our physician eases the Radiesse® gel into your skin using a fine needle to fill in and augment the treatment area and smooth moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, temporarily adding volume to the skin and smoothing the surface.
You'll be seated in a comfortable reclining chair, and though no anesthesia is required, the doctor may choose to numb the treatment area to minimize discomfort.
Our doctor will work with you to determine the most effective injection sites before administration. The entire injection procedure can take from just about 15 minutes to an hour.
Results are usually evident immediately, though swelling may occur so the full effect may not be visible until the day after treatment.
Radiesse Side Effects and Recovery
There have been very few side effects reported in the use of Radiesse. However, you may experience some common injection-related reactions such as mild irritation, lumps, redness, bruising, swelling, itching, discoloration, or tenderness at the injection site. These conditions typically resolve themselves within one to two days. Your physician will explain what to expect and provide specific instructions after your treatment, including to remain upright for four hours after the procedure and refrain from vigorous activity for 24 hours. In most cases, patients return to normal activities almost immediately after treatment. As with all skin injection procedures, there is a risk of infection
